Our Philosophy

Every child is supported to participate in the program where each child’s agency is promoted, enabling them to make the choices and decisions. Children are active participants in their learning and develop a sense of autonomy which in turn encourages cognitive development.

Pedagogical practices guide our educators in curriculum development and assist planning, implementation and evaluating children’s learning by adapting a holistic approach.

Educators intentionally scaffold children’s understanding and learning by making use of spontaneous and intentional teachable moments to extend children’s learning. Educators use reflective practice as a form of ongoing learning which helps us to improve the quality of our learning programs.

We emphasise the importance of building strong partnerships with families through regular and open communication with which allows us to build trust and helps children reach their full potential in the early years.

We are proud to say that the families, children and educators at our Forrest centre come from a wide range of backgrounds giving us a rich and culturally diverse population.

Rooms

We cater for children from six weeks to six years of age and the centre is open from 7.30am to 6.00pm. The rooms are split into three distinct pods based on the child’s age and each room is named after an Australian native animal based on the children’s interest of animals:

Tadpoles: Six weeks–15 months old

Froglets: 15 months – 2 years old

Possums:  2 – 3 years old

Sugar Gliders: 2 – 3 years old

Dingoes3 – 4 years old

Tasmanian Tigers: 4 – 6 years old

The staff in our Preschool pod care for children aged between three years and school age in a stimulating learning environment. Our Preschool pod encourages independence and offers many opportunities for the children to do things for themselves.

The centre has an open door policy, inviting parents and educators to be a part of the daily program as much as is possible. We invite families to visit at any time and become involved in the centre as much as they desire. We hold family information sessions throughout the year so families can contribute to the Centre Community.
