Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)
For older people that prefer to stay independent in their own home, the Commonwealth Home Support Program can provide entry level support services such as cleaning, washing clothes, showering, meals and basic home maintenance tasks. We also offer social support groups and transport.
Our transport services, which consist of a fleet of six cars, two 12 seat vans, and a 22 seat bus— serve residents throughout Canberra with over 9800 trips conducted this year. The bus is equipped with a hydraulic ramp able to support bariatric clients or those with large scooters.
Eligibility for this program is based on your support needs and age.
If you’re having trouble with everyday tasks and feel that a little support could improve your health and wellbeing, CHSP could be right for you.
To be eligible for this program, you must be aged:
- 65 years or older (50 years or older for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people), or
- 50 years or older (45 years or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) and on a low income, homeless, or at risk of being homeless.

Aged Care Services
Seniors Activities & Groups
Social support services can help you to maintain an active social life by having someone visit you in your home, or by arranging visits and outings in the community. Social support and activities can help you find a place where you feel supported and connected and can help prevent loneliness and isolation.
Community Services #1 offers the following social support groups:

- Chinese Community Social Group
- Croatian Community Social Group
- Spanish Community Social Group
- Craft Group
- Activities on Wheels
- Shopping Outings
Social Support for Individuals
Services may include visiting services and accompanied activities such as assisting the person through accompanied shopping, bill paying, attendance at appointments and other related activities.
Transport
The transport program is designed to assist with transport to medical appointments, social and shopping activities.
Domestic Assistance
Domestic assistance can help you with home related tasks such as cleaning, dishwashing, clothes washing, ironing and unaccompanied shopping.
Personal Care
Personal care may include assistance with eating, bathing, going to the toilet, grooming, dressing, getting in and out of bed, moving about the house.
Garden Maintenance
Garden maintenance such as lawn mowing and pruning where there are issues for client safety and access.
Specialised Domestic Support
If you know somebody struggling with hoarding and squalor issues we may be able to help. We can organise assistance with decluttering and major cleaning jobs.
You will need to be 65 years or over and be willing to register with MyAgedCare to receive this free support.
