Craft for a cause

The Community Services #1 (CS#1) ‘Craft for Kindness’ seniors social group has proudly made over 100 hand knitted items for charity in 2019. The items, most knitted or crocheted, include soft toys, beanies, jumpers and blankets for those in need. The social group for over 65s meets every week for a hot drink, conversation and crafting for charities at Community Services #1 in Narrabundah.

91-year-old group member Audrey has single-handedly created 66 pieces since June. She had previously given up knitting but has picked it back up since joining the group.

“I have always loved knitting but I stopped. Then when I discovered Craft for Kindness, I decided to pick it up again. It’s a great social activity for me and I like to make special things for people in need,” said Audrey.

Amy Tulloh, Operations Director at CS#1 says “Our Craft for Kindness group ensures that seniors in our community can connect with others over a common interest and provides an opportunity for otherwise potentially isolated people to socialise and get out of the house,” she said.

“It’s such a great thing to be able to offer these social groups and to give back to the community by making these gorgeous handmade items for local charities. We are hoping that both the group members and the craft activities expand in 2020 and we would be delighted to receive any donations of craft items or wool to help this group keep giving back.”
