ABC Canberra’s annual Giving Tree appeal

This festive season you can help to provide sustenance and support to people in our community with ABC Canberra’s annual Giving Tree appeal and CS#1 is very proud to be a recipient!

This year, ABC Canberra are focussed on collecting food and funds for Foodbank NSW&ACT.

Foodbank is Australia’s largest food relief organisation, working in partnership with local charities (like CS#1) to help feed vulnerable Australians.

One in five Australians experience food insecurity at some point each year. Foodbank addresses this crisis by distributing food and grocery supplies to charities for their food relief services. To do this, Foodbank works with the entire Australian food and grocery sector including farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers and retailers who donate and redirect surplus product.

In Canberra, Foodbank partners with 45 charities and schools and have delivered 393,000 kgs of food (or just over 1 million meals) in the last twelve months.

Stay tuned throughout November and December to hear more about Foodbank, and the positive impact they make in Canberra and beyond.

When to donate?

Donations will be accepted under the ABC Canberra Giving Tree from 9am on Monday 11 November until 12 noon on Friday 13 December.

What to donate?

Foodbank welcomes all non-perishable pantry items that are in-date and personal hygiene and household items. A few key items include:

  • Canned meat, fish, fruit, vegetable and soup
  • Noodles, pasta, and rice
  • Baked beans and spaghetti
  • Baby food and formula
  • Deodorant, soap and body wash
  • Shampoo, conditioner and sanitary items
  • Baby wipes and nappies
  • Dish washing liquid and detergent

Foodbank welcomes all financial donations, and just $1 donated provides two meals. The donated food Foodbank receives does not provide enough food for demand that is increasing for food relief. As a result Foodbank have to purchase food to keep up with the demand.
